It was unusual, alright. No loudspeakers, no special campaign vehicles and no party workers accompanying the candidate. This was the Aam Aadmi Party style of campaign in Salem on Saturday. E. Satheesh Kumar, the party’s Salem candidate and district treasurer T.K. Sarath Babu met every trader at the V.O.C. Market and heard their grievances on the first day of the campaign. Holding the ‘broom’, the party’s symbol, they went around the market and were able to strike a chord with the people around.
“It is unusual that a candidate patiently listens”, said Paavathal, a vegetable seller. Mr. Satheesh Kumar told The Hindu that interacting with people and knowing their problem is very important in order to provide a solution. A total of 15 teams, each consisting of three members, began the campaign at Omalur, Edappadi, Ammapet and some other villages.
