CUDDALORE: Her adherence to veganism helped her achieve a yoga marathon of 27 hours and 30 minutes last month, said Amrutha Anand from Chidambaram. Performing 1008 asanas of hatha yoga, with a break of 10 minutes every hour, the computer science engineer achieved the feat on June 16 at Cuddalore.
The yoga marathon feat was sponsored by the International Tamil Vegetarian Union and hosted by the CK School of Practical Knowledge, Cuddalore. “The idea is to promote veganism in India. As I had practised, it was not difficult to complete the yoga marathon and stay awake throughout,” said Ms. Anand, adding that veganism gave her body strength. “I have been given a certificate from (Puducherry-based) Assist World Records, and am awaiting certification from the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records,” she said. Ms. Anand is now making preparations for a 50-hour yoga marathon in an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records.
This is not Ms. Anand’s first attempt at a yoga record. She won multiple records, including the Limca Book of Records, for the ‘Longest Laghu Vajrasana posture’ for maintaining the advanced backbend posture steadily and for the longest duration at 20 minutes in May 2014 at Tiruchi.
Ms. Anand began learning yoga at the age of 10 under her mother who has completed a doctorate in yoga at the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, she said. Ms. Anand has won many yoga championship events at state, national and international levels, and completed her advanced yoga teacher training course at the Sivananda Ashram. Ms. Anand has also done a P.G. Diploma in Yoga and MSc Yoga.
At present, she is completing an ME in Computer Science from the J. J. College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchi.
