A trek to sing the glory of the Indian Army and motivate youth particularly those in the rural areas to take up a career in the armed forces commenced at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) in Wellington on Tuesday.
The participants including an officer, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 15 jawans from the Sindh Brigade, Jamnagar, were flagged off by the Commandant, MRC, Brigadier S. Suresh Kumar.
They will cover about 280km. while trekking over ten days through far flung parts of the Blue Mountains like Kodanad, Kotagiri, Ajjoor, Pykara and Nadugani on The Nilgiris-Kerala border.
Speaking to The Hindu defence sources said that the trek will help boost the image of the Indian Army.
It will facilitate a first hand feel of the flora and fauna of the district and in the process help the soldiers promote environmental awareness among the villagers.
The expedition was also aimed at promoting a spirit of adventure and camaraderie among the participants.
