A rural college achieves NAAC accreditation

The Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Arts College (PKAC), Kalitheerthalkuppam, Puducherry, has been awarded Grade B from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The accreditation makes it the first among the Pondicherry Society for Higher Education (PONSHE) colleges in Puducherry to be awarded NAAC accreditation, according to a press release from the college.

The NAAC was established by the University Grants Commission to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in India. A peer team constituted by the NAAC under the chairmanship of Professor Sunil Kumar Gupta, former Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, assessed the institute from March 16 to 18 2015, said the release.

Gautam Sanyal, Dean and Professor of the Department of Computer Science, National Institute of Technology, West Bengal and Dr. Swebert D’Silva, Principal, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, were the Member Coordinators. The college’s management acknowledged the efforts of Puducherry Education Secretary G. Ragesh Chandra and Director, Higher and Technical Education and Member Secretary of PONSHE T. Karikalan in getting the NAAC accreditation.

The institute is now eligible for grants from the Union government and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The release mentioned Principal-in-charge of the college B. Kumaran as saying that it is an honour for a rural institution to get the accreditation which is valid for five years.

Plethora of courses to pick from

The Pondicherry University Community College, Lawspet, Puducherry, has announced admissions to its undergraduate, vocational degree, postgraduate diploma and certificate programmes for the academic year 2015-16. Diverse Fields covered under the various programmes include tourism and ticketing, adolescent health and counselling, yoga education, spoken English, Operation Theatre Technology, computer graphics and web technology, accounting and taxation and reporting and newscasting. The last date for submission of application is June 15. Further details are available on the Pondicherry University website.
