Sparks speculation on whether a subtle political tussle has already begun between the two hugely popular film stars

A day after veteran actor Kamal Haasan met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Chennai and affirmed that both of them were on the same side, fighting communalism and corruption, actor Rajinikanth on Friday tweeted in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.

Through his tweet, the actor, who recently hinted at a possible entry into politics, and is reportedly being wooed by the BJP, triggered speculation on whether a subtle political tussle had already begun between the two hugely popular film stars.

“I extend my full support to our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji's Swachhata Hi Seva mission. Cleanliness is godliness,” Mr. Rajinikanth said in his tweet.

The PM recently wrote to industry leaders, sportspersons, opinion-makers and film personalities, seeking their support for his ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative, which was launched by President Ram Nath Kovind. In his letter, he urged them to “encourage widespread support for and participation in cleanliness initiatives across India,” leading up to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Even as BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan tweeted urging Mr. Kamal Haasan to take into account the corruption charges against Mr. Kejriwal, she thanked Mr. Rajinikanth for supporting the PM’s campaign.
