A bold step by DMK: Thirumavalavan

March 06, 2011 01:41 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:56 am IST - CHENNAI:

Describing as a “bold step” the decision of the DMK to quit the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Viduthalai Chiruthiagal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday said his party would toe the line of the DMK in the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Thirumavalavan, representing his party in the Lok Sabha, said the DMK's decision had galvanised the cadre of the DMK and the alliance partners and the DMK would sweep the polls.

“Mr. Karunanidhi will become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the sixth time,” he added.

Stating that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's status in Indian politics had gone up because of the decision, he said the developments would in no way weaken the DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu.

“Mr. Karunanidhi has always been tolerant, had adhered to alliance dharma and never hurt the sentiments of the alliance partners. The DMK's announcement that it would offer issue-based support to the UPA government bears testimony to his qualities,” Mr. Thirumavalavan added.
