Two elephants were electrocuted while a third one was injured after coming into contact with a live electric fence, installed illegally, on a private farm near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district on Tuesday.

Forest Department officials said a female elephant aged 30 and a male elephant aged between 6 and 7 were found electrocuted in the morning.

A third elephant, a male calf, was found injured on its trunk. A fourth elephant managed to escape from the place.

“A case will be registered against the owner of the farm based on the post-mortem report,” said District Forest Officer S. Ramasubramanian.
