Tamil Nadu government today announced that Rs. 100 crore has been set aside for disaster relief and management during the ongoing North east monsoon which has claimed as many as 116 lives.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi announced hiking relief for damaged huts, from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000, a State government release here said.
A relief of Rs. two lakh was being provided to kin of people killed in rain-related incidents and Rs. 10,000 as compensation to people whose cattle died in the rains.
Collectors of districts that have been severely affected by rains were preparing reports on damage caused to standing crops, roads and infrastructure.
Mr. Karunanidhi held a review meeting today at the secretariat in this regard, the release said.
Meanwhile, police said that a total of 116 people had been killed in various rain-related incidents across the State.
Tamil Nadu has been receiving copious rains, resulting in speedy increase in water levels in dams, reservoirs and other water bodies across the State ever since the north-east monsoon set in the State on October 29.
Water managers have also predicted good supply for Chennai during the next summer as reservoirs supplying drinking water to the city are receiving a good inflow.
