: Even as preparations are on for the proposed swearing-in of V.K. Sasikala as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, some sections of the public took to social media to register their protest against her imminent elevation. Some of the demands made by the protesters, though, were not on sound legal grounds.

A petition posted by an individual on the website change.org, petitioning the President of India and others to dissolve the Tamil Nadu Government and prevent Ms. Sasikala from becoming the Chief Minister, secured over 1.21 lakh endorsements as of Monday night. The petition said incumbent Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam must be asked to continue in his post.

Late on Sunday night, rapper Sofia Thenmozhi Ashraf and her crew members recorded a song protesting against the impending takeover of the State’s administration by Ms. Sasikala.

The video was posted by Ms. Ashraf on her Facebook page. The crew begins the video saying “We are extremely disturbed by what’s happening in Chennai today. Democracy has taken a huge hit,” before launching into a song questioning the decision and the ruling politicians in the State. Towards the end of the song, one could see the crew being stopped by the police, even as Ms. Ashraf keeps singing. The video ends with a conch blowing. Later, Ms. Ashraf said on her Facebook page that they were all safe.

Meanwhile, around 50 persons at Vembakottai village in Bodi block observed a fast at the village on Sunday night protesting against Ms. Sasikala’s election as the leader of legislature party. They also expressed concerns over resignation of the “son-of-the-soil” O. Panneerselvam as the Chief Minister. Police rushed to the spot and convinced the agitators to withdraw their stir.
