Film director and leader of the Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam Seeman, was on Saturday detained under the National Security Act.

A special team of the Chennai Police served the detention order on Mr. Seeman who is presently lodged in the central prison at Vellore.

He was arrested by the North Beach police on charges of making an inflammatory speech during a demonstration organised here last week to condemn the attack on Tamil fishermen allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Commissioner of Police (in-charge) Sanjay Arora, told The Hindu that Mr. Seeman was detained for making speeches that were against the interests of national integrity and could disrupt maintenance of harmony.

Mr. Seeman was detained under the NSA by the Tirunelveli City Police in February 2009. He was released by the High Court later, Superintendent of Police Asra Garg said.
