More MLAs will join OPS: Pandiarajan

February 12, 2017 01:20 am | Updated 01:20 am IST - CHENNAI:

AIADMK MLAs may have elected interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala as the legislative party leader, but it has led to public revulsion towards her, State Education Minister K. Pandiarajan said on Saturday.

“I sensed a big disenchantment among the people...The overwhelming support for OPS was there for everyone to see. So, I decided to support OPS,” said Mr. Pandiarajan.

He added that his decision was partly influenced by the fact that there were significant legal hurdles for Ms. Sasikala to become the Chief Minister.

He praised the Chief Minister for his accessibility and for the way he functioned during Cyclone Vardah and after the oil spill along the Chennai coast, he said.

“The only way AIADMK could restore itself is when it is headed by someone like OPS. Only he has managed to inherit the legacy of Amma by virtue of being her choice twice,” said Mr. Pandiarajan.

Stating that he had spoken to about 20 MLAs, the Minister encouraged those housed in the resort to overcome their mental barrier and join the OPS camp.
