Govt. has provided employment to 10 lakh youth: Anbarasan

Tamil Nadu Government has provided employment to nearly 10 lakh youth over the last four-and-a-half years, both in public and private sectors, State Minister for Labour Welfare and Employment T. M. Anbarasan said in Tiruvarur on Tuesday.

Speaking at a skill training camp organised by the government for unemployed educated youth of Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, Mr. Anbarasan said 4,80,466 youth were employed in government sectors through employment exchanges. Nearly 5.20 lakh youth have been provided employment in private sectors through camps organised like the one at Tiruvarur.

The government announced skill training for unemployed educated youth and appointment in private companies on August 15, 2010. Accordingly one lakh youth would be provided skill training, and later jobs, by private companies. The government had allotted Rs. 50 crore to provide stipend to youth undergoing skill training.

At the first such skill training camp held in Tiruvallur district on November 21, a total of 83 companies selected 5,216 youths, of the 13,442 who attended the camp. At the second camp held at Tirunelveli recently, 2,400 candidates were selected.

Nearly 15,000 youth from Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts are participating in the Tiruvarur camp. Fifty-four private companies will select candidates. "I hope atleast 5,000 will be selected in this camp", the Minister said.

He also said that the State netted an investment of Rs. 47,000 crore from 100 foreign companies, generating employment to 2.5 lakh youth, in the last four-and-a-half years.

U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, said many educated youth were taking to agricultural jobs in Tiruvrarur and Nagapattinam districts. The skill training camp will prove a boon to these youths, he said.
