NAGERCOIL: Migrant Forum – India National Domestic Workers’ Movement urged Kanniyakumari Collector on Monday to initiate action to secure the release of five fishermen arrested by Iran Coast Guard (ICG) on August 6 last year.

In a petition submitted to the Collector, the movement members said the five fishermen – Praveen (29), Rojos (26), Sahaya Sudharsingh (24), Edwin Subin (40) and Arogya Dinesh (30) of Kanniyakumari district – were arrested by Iran Coast Guard allegedly after they crossed the international boundary line and were lodged in Bucher prison for 72 days.

Though they were released by the Iranian authorities, the fishermen were kept under arrest in their boat in a harbour, they said.
