DMK treasurer and the Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin on Friday called for a probe into the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by a sitting judge of the Madras High Court.
Referring to the observation of Justices S. Vaidhyanathan and V. Parthiban on Thursday, he said it was the responsibility of the State government to release details on the circumstances that led to her death and the treatment provided to her.
“People have the right to know the details of her health condition and her death. But the State government has not bothered to disclose any details to dispel the mystery over her death. Even her death was announced by the Chief Secretary only after the hospital authorities issued a statement. That was why I demanded a white paper on the treatment given to her,” he said.
Pointing out that various political parties, social and media organisations, and neutral-minded persons have been urging the State government to clear the doubts, Mr. Stalin said the government’s indifference had led to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking appointment of a commission comprising three retired Supreme Court judges to probe her “mysterious death.”
