DINDIGUL: An unidentified gang kidnapped Arunachalam (62), a cinema theatre owner and leading financier, in Oddanchatram near here on Tuesday evening.

After preliminary investigation, police found that a five-member gang abducted him when he was walking on Palani Road.

His mobile phone was switched off. No one had so far contacted his family members or relatives, a senior police officer investigating the case said.

Acting on a complaint lodged by his son Suresh, Oddanchatram police registered a case of kidnap.

Mr. Arunachalam’s relatives and family members did not provide any clue or possible reason for his abduction or fix any suspect behind this incident, the police officer said.

Another police officer said that Mr. Arunachalam was very strict in his business transactions and was tough while handling borrowers. So, many people who had financial dealings with him did not like him much. Further investigation was on.

A few years ago, a doctor was kidnapped from Dindigul and after prolonged search, the police found the body at a place near Udumalpet.
