August 28, 2010 09:58 pm | Updated 09:58 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The CPI (M) MLA, K. Balabharathi, has urged the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, to withdraw the case registered against her party colleague G. Latha, also an MLA, in Vellore district.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Ms. Balabharathi said Ms. Latha had taken up the cause of the 36 families in Gudiyatham town whose houses were demolished on April 14.

Ms. Latha and the affected people had taken up the matter with the District Collector.

On August 12, she and others were going in a procession to launch an agitation when they were stopped and invited for talks.

Case ‘foisted'

Later, a case was ‘foisted' on her and she was arrested. Besides withdrawing the case against her, justice should be rendered to the affected people, the letter said.
