Arasu Cable TV Corporation: Krishnasamy demands probe

August 28, 2010 10:40 pm | Updated 10:40 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Puthiya Tamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy on Saturday urged the government to institute an inquiry commission, comprising leaders of Opposition parties, to find out whether the Arasu Cable TV Corporation is functioning properly.

“Chief Minister says it has been functioning silently. But, we want to know whether it has been functioning or given a silent burial,” he told reporters. “Everyone knows that IAS officer C. Umashankar was removed as the head of the Corporation because he resisted the designs of private cable TV operators. His transfer and subsequent suspension have raised a lot of doubts about the government's motives. So we need an inquiry.”

Dr. Krishnasamy, now an AIADMK ally, announced that his party would launch a three-pronged agitation, demanding total prohibition.
