Chief Entomologist in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Abdul Kader on Tuesday inspected anti-dengue operation being carried out under the supervision of the health staff of Thoothukudi Corporation.

He inspected mosquito eradication work in Santhana Mariamman Kovil Street and Bryant Nagar Third Street. Sources said special teams of heath staff from Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar had also been involved in monitoring the anti-dengue operation here.

After inspecting the streets, Mr. Kader suggested introduction of gambusia fish in water containers as they could eat mosquito eggs. Several houses in Bryant Nagar remained locked, and toilets were found to be the breeding grounds for mosquitoes in many other houses.

Mosquitoes were found in large numbers in wells. Abate solution was poured into wells and water containers. The health staff were advised to ensure adequate chlorination of drinking water.

Corporation Executive Engineer A. Lakshmanan, City Health Officer Pradeep V. Krishnakumar and others were present.
