Police have recovered 92 two-wheelers lying unclaimed at the parking lots and near bus stands.
While 20 vehicles were handed over to the owners after tracing them by their registration number, the police could not find the owners of other vehicles for want of details. Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Ferozekhan Abdulla said that police teams inspected parking lots and looked out for the unclaimed motorbikes that were left for days. “We were able to collect 92 vehicles that were left unclaimed. Among them the (police) sub-divisions of Thilagar Thidal and Anna Nagar accounted for 37 and 36 vehicles respectively,” Mr. Abdulla said.
The DCP said that the police attempted to trace the vehicle owners with the help of engine number and chasis number but many numbers were erased which was an indication that they were stolen vehicles. He suspected that the vehicles could have been stolen in other districts and left at the parking lots of the Mattuthavani Integrated bus stand, Arapalayam bus stand and Periyar bus stand and other parking lots.
Those vehicles whose owners could not be traced were handed over to the Revenue authorities.
Mr. Abdulla appealed to vehicle owners who suspect that their missing vehicles could be among these 72 unclaimed vehicles should approach the Assistant Commissioners (Crime) to identify their vehicles. They should come with the original records of their two-wheelers.
