Ninety persons sustained injuries, six of them seriously, at a jallikattu held at Vaarapur in Pudukottai district on Saturday.

About 1,180 bulls and over 360 bull tamers participated in the jallikattu. The event went on for six hours. Bulls and bull tamers were screened by teams of veterinarians and doctors respectively.

About 90 persons, including spectators, sustained injuries in the jallikattu.

However, a majority of them sustained minor injuries and were treated on the spot. Six of the seriously injured were rushed to the Pudukottai Government Hospital and four of them were referred to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital, according to police sources.

District Collector S. Ganesh and S.Selvaraj, Superintendent of Police, supervised the conduct of the jallikattu.
