80 families near Karaikal shifted to safer places

A total of 80 families from Nallaezhundur near here were shifted to a nearby government school in the wake of water logging of the area. The authorities made the arrangements as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of residents of this area.

A part of a wall at a residence collapsed at Nallezhundhur. However, none was injured. P. R. Siva, Minister for Education, and E. Vallavan, Collector, inspected the rain-ravaged areas in Nallezhundhur, Nallambal, Kottagam, Arasalaru and Vanjiyaru, Kottapadi and Athipadugai. Schools and colleges remained closed today as a precautionary measure. There was a let-up in the showers on Monday.

Nagapattinam

Special Monitoring Officer, Shiv Das Meena, on Monday, inspected the relief measures at different rain-hit areas in the district. At Arichandra river, the Public Works Department officials made arrangements for clearing the silt at a channel to ensure free flow of storm water. The thick growth of water hyacinth at the Nambiar Colony here was cleared for preventing water-logging in the area. Mr. Meena advised the officials to ensure clear water stagnation in residential areas.

Pudukottai

C. Samayamurthy, Director of Employment and Training and also Special Monitoring Officer for the district, visited the villages in the coastal parts of Manamelkudi on Monday and ascertained the impact of North east monsoon on the habitations of fishermen.

Accompanied by N. Subramanian, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health and S. Ganesh, Collector, he visited Ponnagaram, Kottaipattinam, Muthukuda and Meemisal villages. Addressing fishermen at these villages, he advised them not to venture into sea for the next few days in the wake of inclement weather. Earlier, he inspected the reservoir at Kadaiyakudi
