Eight persons, including three women and three children from Bihar, employed as bonded labourers were rescued from a poultry farm in Thoripalli in Shoolagiri on Wednesday.

The families of Muhammad Mujaideen (31) and Muhamad Jehangir (26), from Sithamadi in Bihar were brought here by the poultry farm owners Lingappa and Rajappa on a promise of employment two months ago.

Muhammad Mujaideen, his wife Jannatheen (27), and their sons Mohammad Anwar (10) and Mohammad Mughil (8) along with their six-month-old baby girl Jeenath had arrived here, accompanied by Mohammad Jehangir’s wife Narseem kathum (22) and Nasreem’s sister Santhini Kathu (18).

The two families were promised payment of Rs.18,000 and food. However, they were not given the promised pay.   On Wednesday, Mujaideen escaped from the poultry farm after his son Anwar had taken seriously ill. He took refuge in a mosque on Rayakottai road. Later, Shoolagiri police was alerted and the families were rescued. However, the police are yet to initiate action against the poultry owners.
