As many as 72 fake ration cards were seized during surprise raids conducted by officials in 8 ration shops in four taluks recently. A fine of Rs. 26,625 was imposed on the salesmen of these shops, a release from the District Revenue Officer, S. Elango, said.
As per the directions of the District Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan, surprise raids were conducted in two shops in each taluk, the release said. Maximum number of 32 ration cards were seized from a shop in Krishnankoil and Rs. 1900 was imposed as fine on the salesmen. Similarly 12 cards were seized from a ration shop in Vettoornimadam in Agasteeswaram taluk.
Eight cards were seized from a shop run by a Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank at Aralvoimozhi in Thovalai taluk, three from Thuckalay, five from a Muthalakurichi shop in Kalkulam taluk.
Nine fake cards were seized from a shop in Marapadi and a fine of Rs. 7,825 was imposed on the salesmen there. The officials had seized three cards from the shop in Edaicode, the release added.
