Under MNREGS, over 36,747 households were provided with 50 days of work in addition to the 100 days of guaranteed employment during 2012-13.
Reviewing the progress of various schemes being implemented in the district at the collectorate, A.K.S.Vijayan, chairperson, District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, said that administrative sanction has been accorded to 4,779 works at a cost of Rs.200 crore under MNREGS during the last fiscal.
Of these, 1,297 works, including those taken up by 10,039 differently abled persons, have been completed.
Mr. Vijayan said that the scope of works under MNREGS have been expanded to bring within its ambit projects under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan such as toilets for households and solid waste management.
Further, under the Total Sanitation Campaign, 22,963 households have received administrative sanction for constructing toilets with a subsidy of Rs.5, 700 each.
Over 138 panchayats have received Nirmal Gram Puraskar award for achieving total sanitation in the district, Mr. Vijayan said.
Of the total 434 gram panchayats in the district, women’s health centres have been established in 432 panchayats.
