Five members of a family from Vellore were killed when their car crashed into a stationary container truck here on Monday.
The crash near Shoolagiri at forenoon left five other passengers grievously injured.
The victims were returning from Bengaluru after attending a wedding at Banasankari on Sunday to Gudiatham in Vellore.
Murali (48), his wife Geetha (40), relatives Shankar (57), Kesavan (55), Amutha (38) were killed on the spot. Vijaylakshmi (39), Shankar (52), Rahul (14), Babu (41) and the driver also Babu (42), were rescued from the mangled remains of the vehicle. The injured were rushed to Hosur government hospital.
This is the second such crash in the last three weeks. Three weeks ago, five passengers were killed when their vehicle rammed a parked heavy vehicle on the Dharmapurihighway.
