4,400 litres of rectified spirit seized

The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW), Vaniyambadi has seized 4,400 litres of rectified spirit and arrested two persons at Agragaram, Vaniyambadi on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, Superintendent of Police, Vellore, T.S. Anbu directed ADSP N. Manivannan to conduct a raid. Following this, a team of police personnel led by the ADSP along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Natraj and Inspector (PEW) Kamaraj conducted a search at the spot.

They found rectified spirit being smuggled in cans from a lorry to a van at the foothills of Sri Srinivasa Perumal Koil hill at Agragaram.

The team seized rectified spirit in 126 cans, each having a capacity of 35 litres, and confiscated the lorry and van. The rectified spirit along with the vehicles seized was worth around Rs. 30 lakh, according to PEW police.

They arrested Masilamani (40), a resident of Vedivattam, and van driver Ashok Kumar (28), a resident of Mullakunavattam.
