400 applications processed at Passport Seva Camp

As many as 400 applications were processed on the first day of the two-day Passport Seva Camp that began at Sona College of Technology auditorium here on Saturday.

Organised by the Regional Passport Office, Coimbatore, over 1,000 applicants registered at the camp. However, only 800 applicants were asked to attend the camp on these two days. The camp was inaugurated by C. Valliappa, chairman, Sona Group of Institutions in the presence of S. Sasikumar, Regional Passport Officer, Coimbatore, and K. Mariappan, vice-president, Tamil Nadu Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association.

Mr. Sasikumar said that this was the first camp held in the region with well-equipped facilities to capture biometric finger prints, photographs and simultaneously uploading the inputs in the ministries portal. He said that after verification and approval of documents in the camp, details would be sent to the jurisdiction police station for verification. After receiving the verification report with recommendations from the police station, new passports would be generated and delivered to the applicants.

He also said that the requirement and expectation of the public to have an additional passport office or passport service kendra in Salem district would be taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs. He said that efforts would be taken to conduct another camp at Salem within two months.

Applicants, who have registered in the online portal and generated Application Reference Number (ARN), are allowed to participate in the camp at the allotted time.
