As many as 385 cadre of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) were arrested for staging demonstration to mark the Babri Masjid demolition day in front of the Anna Statue near new bus stand in Krishnagiri on Friday.
The demonstration was held as part of its state-wide agitation demanding early judgement on the Babri Masjid demolition case, suitable action against those responsible for demolition of the building and the handing over of the controversial ‘Babri Masjid land’ to Muslims. All the leaders were released in the evening.
The demonstration was presided over by A. Altaf Ahmed, District President. J. Kalanhar, State Secretary of TMMK’s Traders’ Wing, T. Kumar, District President, Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam addressed the demonstration.
A. Sultan, Town President of TMMK welcomed the gathering. H. Tajudhin, Town Secretary proposed vote of thanks.
Security beefed up The district police have strengthened security measures in all the 14 border check posts within Karnataka and important places inside the Krishnagiri district.
Superintendent of Police S.R. Senthil Kumar said that apart from the local police strength, two companies of Tamil Nadu Special Police have been posted in border check posts.
All government offices, places of worship, markets, bus stands and other public places where people throng in large numbers in the district will be monitored. There will be patrolling duty from Thursday night and on Friday in these places to ensure a peaceful atmosphere, he added.
All the lodges, community halls and private marriage halls were checked earlier by the police and are being monitored since Thursday evening, Mr. Kumar added.
In Dharmapuri district, important places such as railway stations, bus stands, telephone exchanges, and power stations of Tangedco were given additional bandobust, police sources said.
Apart from these, 15 moving patrols by two wheeler, 14 four-wheel patrolling and police picketing was also placed in forty eight places across the district.
Open line patrols by a policemen accompanied by the Home Guard or the local menial for every 3 km stretch was arranged from Thursday evening, police sources said.
