Thirty-five bull tamers were injured at a ‘jallikattu’ held at Kokkudi, near Tirumanur, on Sunday. Four of them were later referred to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

The ‘jallikattu’ was organised, after a gap of four years, as part of the festival at St. Antony’s Church.

About 400 bulls from different parts of the central districts and 200 tamers participated in it. Thirty-one persons who suffered minor injuries were treated at the venue.

The jallikattu was organised under the strict supervision of district officials. The bulls and tamers were subject to medical screening before the event.

Collector E. Saravanavel Raj and Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq monitored the event.
