32 injured in ‘jallikattu’ at Pudukottai district

A total of 32 persons, mostly tamers, were injured in ‘jallikattu’ held at two places in the district on Thursday. They were treated at a special camp on the spot.

At Mullipatti village, near Vamban, 26 persons were injured at a ‘jallikattu’ held at Sri Veeramakali Amman temple on the occasion of ‘Panguni Uthiram’ festival. In all, 368 bulls were brought from different parts of the district besides bulls from Dindigul and Sivaganga to participate in the event.

A total of 215 bull tamers participated in the ‘jallikattu’.

Earlier, S. P. Amrith, Sub-Collector, inspected the arrangements and inaugurated the ‘jallikattu’. At another ‘jallikattu’ in Ponnamaravathy, six persons were injured.

In all, 286 bulls were brought from different parts of the district and Sivaganga and 105 bull tamers participated in the event.

Vadivel Prabhu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Iluppur, inaugurated the ‘jallikattu’.
