300 NLC contract workmen held

Workers’ protest has not affected power generation, say NLC sources

September 20, 2014 02:54 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:48 pm IST - NEYVELI:

300 contract workmen of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) staging an agitation raising slogans near the Thermal bus stand in the township were arrested on Friday.

The workmen, who had been on strike for the past 17 days, were demanding regularisation of services, higher wages and other benefits. Several rounds of conciliatory talks held with the mediation of Central labour department officials failed.

Report unfounded’

Meanwhile, NLC sources dismissed as unfounded the report in a section of the media that the ongoing strike had affected power generation.

The output was maintained at 2,200 MW on Friday against the full capacity of 2,490 MW, the sources said.
