30 tasmac shops closed in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai

Thirty tasmac shops – 12 in Vellore district and 18 in Tiruvannamalai district – were closed down on Sunday.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on assuming power, had announced that 500 liquor shops will be closed across the State as part of her electoral promise of implementing prohibition in a phased manner.

In Tiruvannamalai district, two of the 18 Tasmac shops that were shut down were located in Tiruvannamalai town – Thiruvodal Street and Polur Road. Among the remaining 16 shops, three were located in Arni town, one each in Chengam taluk, Polur taluk and Thandrampet taluk, four in Cheyyar taluk, three each in Tiruvannamalai taluk and Vandavasi taluk, a press release said. Of the 12 shops that have been closed in Vellore district, eight were in Vellore and four in Arakkonam. The eight included two shops in Vellore town limit.
