Three youth of Yeriyur village, near Pennagaram here, died and another is fighting for life at the Government Medical Hospital here after consuming liquor mixed with some chemicals in the last two days.
According to the police, K. Pachiyappan, 28, a B.Sc. Chemistry graduate employed as a laboratory technician in a private concern near Mettur; I. Vijay (23); A. Uthirakumar (24); and A. Palanisamy (25) consumed liquor mixed with some chemicals for higher intoxication at a secluded place in the village on Wednesday evening. At home, they started vomiting and complained of stomach pain. Pachiyappan was rushed to a local hospital, but he died in the early hours of Thursday.
Relatives took the other three to the government hospital at Pennagaram. Later, Vijay and Uthirakumar were shifted to a private hospital in Dharmapuri and Palanisamy to a private hospital in Krishnagiri.
Vijay and Uthirakumar, who were in serious condition, were taken to the Government Medical College Hospital early on Friday. While Vijay died on the way, Uthirakumar died at the hospital at noon.
