Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said that granting of bail to former Union Minister A. Raja in the 2G spectrum case “definitely looks as though it [the case] is getting diluted.”

She was responding to reporters near her Poes Garden residence here.

To a query on Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's allegation regarding the role of Union Minister P. Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis deal, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that it was up to Dr. Swamy to substantiate his allegation and Mr Chidambaram to defend himself.

“In such a situation, the only hope is the Supreme Court,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi expressed happiness over Mr. Raja's release.

Speaking to reporters here, he said everybody in the party would support Mr. Raja and if an opportunity arose, he would go to New Delhi to see the former Union Minister.

DMK cadre celebrate

Reacting to the grant of bail to Mr. Raja, DMK cadre and his supporters in Perambalur, which was earlier represented by him, burst crackers and distributed sweets.

They also distributed sweets and chocolates to passers-by. Supporters in his native Velur village in the district also celebrated the occasion.
