The Narcotics Information Bureau (NIB) CID Chennai seized more than 270 kg of dry ganja during a vehicle check conducted on Poonamallee High Road in Nazarathpet on Monday.
A senior official of the NIB-CID, Chennai, said based on a tip-off, a team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Purushothaman, intercepted a lorry supposed to be carrying rubber on Poonamallee High Road in Nazarathpet.
In the vehicle, the NIB-CID officials found dry ganja hidden under the rubber material. The officials immediately confiscated the ganja worth ₹30 lakh, the lorry and the rubber items.
The official said during the last two months, over 200 kg of ganja and 15 vehicles used for transporting the contraband product had been seized. A total of 325 persons involved in transporting these banned products have been detained. Persons aware of any such illegal activities could contact the NIB-CID unit on 28511587.
