Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday ordered the allocation of Rs. 1 crore each for the construction of own buildings for 27 hostels meant for Adi Dravidar and Tribal students.

An official release said the Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare is running 1,342 hostels. Due to the government’s efforts for the betterment of the students belonging to these communities, more students are coming forward to study and drop-out rate was substantially reduced. Taking into the consideration of the growing need of students, Ms. Jayalalithaa ordered the establishment of new hostels and the construction of new buildings for the hostels functioning at rented buildings.

The release also added that at present, there are 54 hostels functioning at rented buildings and Ms. Jayalalithaa ordered the construction of new buildings for 27 such hostels in this year.

The new building will be constructed in five places in Pudukottai district; four places in Villupuram district; three in Sivaganga; two each in Salem, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli and one each Ariyalur, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Tirupur, Tuticorin.

Five kilowatt solar system each would be established in the hostels, the release added.
