A total of 26 schools – government higher secondary schools – 19; government high school – one; and panchayat union middle schools – six, participated in the cultural festival organised by the Salem Steel Plant at its Stainless Cultural Centre in the city on Saturday.

The event was organised by the SSP under its corporate social responsibility to promote local arts and culture among the students of the schools located around the plant area. The students presented folk dances, street plays and dramas at the day-long programme.

A.K. Jaiswal, General Manager-Maintenance, M. Somasundaram, General Manager-Projects and EDS, and R.K. Nagabhushana, General Manager-Steel and Quality, were the chief guests at the valediction. The SSP, earlier in November, conducted elocution, drawing and painting, essay writing, folk dance, folk songs, short drama and science modelling competitions in the peripheral schools. The competitions attracted more than 850 students.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of these competitions at the valediction.
