A total of 236 candidates have filed 311 nominations for the May 16 polls for the 10 Assembly segments in the district as a total of 101 nominations were filed on Friday alone, the last day for filing of nominations.
The number of candidates who filed nominations for each segment: Tirunelveli – 37 nominations from 27 candidates; Palayamkottai – 41 nominations from 30 candidates; Nanguneri – 26 nominations from 23; Radhapuram - 26 from 22; Alangulam 26 nominations from 19 candidates; Ambasamudram – 37 nominations from 26; Tenkasi – 31 nominations from 24; Kadayanallur – 37 nominations from 28; Vasudevanallur (reserved) – 22 nominations from 17; and Sankarankovil – 28 nominations from 20 candidates. As the nominations filed by him had a few corrections, AIADMK candidate for Palayamkottai constituency S.K.A. Haider Ali filed one more nomination on Friday.
Scrutiny of nominations will be carried out on Saturday and withdrawal of nominations will be on Monday and hence the final list of candidates in the fray for the May 16 polls will be ready on that day.
