23 temples in Salem to be renovated

A total of 23 ancient temples across the district will soon be renovated.

The State Government has sanctioned Rs. 11.50 lakh - Rs. 50,000 for each temple – to start the renovation works.

Edappadi K. Palanisamy, Minister for State Highways and Minor Ports, handed over the cheques to the executive officers of the temples at a function at the Arulmigu Sugavaneswarar Temple here on Thursday.

The Minister said that 275 temples in the district had been covered under the one-time puja scheme and annadhanam was provided to the devotees in 22 major temples. The Government was providing pension to 384 priests of the rural temples. Renovation and kumbabishekam had been completed in 41 rural temples. The Government had planned the renovation of 37 temples located in Adi Dravidar colonies.

Mayor S. Soundappan, MLAs M. K. Selvaraj and G. Venkatachalam, and Joint Commissioner of HR and CE Mangaiyarkarasi were present.
