22,341 new voters in Kanyakumari district

As many as 23,341 new voters have been included in the voter list since January 20 this year and the total number of voters has increased to 15,32,605 in Kanyakumari district, said District Election Officer and Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan here on Friday.

Releasing the supplementary voter list at the Collectorate, Mr. Chavan said that those who had attained 18 years of age on or before January 20 were added in the supplementary list.

Arrangements to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner were in place. So far 226 complaints had been received by the control room and action initiated against the complaints.

The expenditure advisor and special expenditure advisors had already arrived and the special police observer was expected to reach Kanyakumari on Friday night.

Elaborating on the arrangements for the ensuing election, Mr. Chavan said that central paramilitary forces would be deployed in the 184 polling booths identified as sensitive and vulnerable.

Monitored

Six companies of paramilitary forces had arrived in the district. The sensitive booths would be monitored online through videorecording on a real-time basis, Mr. Chavan added.

The supplementary voters’ list was received by Nanjil M. Chandran, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Nagercoil town secretary. District Revenue Officer S. Elango and other officials were present.

K. Sundaram, President, District Advocates wing of AIADMK, P. Veenus Raj of DMK, N.S. Kannan of CPI (M), N.K.S. Krishnakumar of BJP and V. Gopi of CPI participated.
