Over 2.23 lakh candidates have registered for VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE-2017), says a press release from VIT university.
Chancellor of the University G. Viswanathan said, “The university’s record placement this year and its thrust to create innovation in academics has propelled the increase in patronage among students, especially from the northern part of India and non-resident Indians.”
In the State-wise list of candidates registered for the examination Andhra Pradesh stands first with 34,068 candidates followed by Uttar Pradesh, Telengana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
About the exam
The VITEEE is to be held as a computer-based test from April 5 to 16 in 167 centres located in 119 cities including those in India, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat. Mr. Viswanathan said that the university would announce examination results on or before April 24 (tentatively) in www.vit.ac.in. The counselling for admissions will begin from May 10 to 13.
To help deserving students get education at VIT, the university has instituted special scholarships. Mr. Viswanathan said that central and state board toppers would get 100% fee waiver for all the four years.
Fee waiver
Those who come within first 50 ranks in the VITEEE would get 75 per cent tuition fee waiver, those who take rank between 51 to 100 would get 50 per cent waiver and those who take rank between 101 to 1,000 would get 25 per cent fee waiver with conditions.
To encourage more Tamil Nadu students to study in VIT, the university has been offering 100 per cent waiver in tuition fees and exemption from hostel fee for Plus Two toppers from each district under the Supporting the Advancement of Rural Students (STARS) scheme.
