TIRUNELVELI

Twenty-two sheep were crushed to death by Tiruchendur– Tirunelveli Inspection Car when the flock was crossing the track beneath South Bypass Road rail overbridge on Tuesday evening.

When the shepherd was attending to a newborn calf at a distance, the flock was crossing the railway track beneath the overbridge around 6.15 p.m. The track inspection car reached this point when the sheep were crossing the track, and crushed 22 of them to death.

The shepherd, who did not want to identify himself, said he had left the herd to attend a newborn calf as no train would cross this point at that time.
