2.2 kg gold seized from two auto passengers

In yet another big seizure of gold, the Central Crime Branch sleuths arrested two persons from whom 2.2 kg of unaccounted gold ornaments was seized late on Saturday. The recovered gold was part of the larger haul of 4.49 kg that was seized. However, the duo could produce bill for 2.29 kg gold.

The duo, Shailesh and Gokulram, residents of Kumbarpete here, had returned from Mumbai and were travelling from Kempegowda International Airport when the CCB sleuths intercepted them around 9 p.m. near Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain Park on T. Chowdiah Road.

Police said that they had received a tip-off following which they checked the vehicle and found that the duo had 4.49 kg of gold valuables worth Rs. 1.25 crore. However, they could not produce bills for about 2.2 kg of gold.

According to police, the duo would take orders from customers in the city and charge commission to get gold ornaments made from a goldsmith in Mumbai. The two men would frequently travel from Mumbai to Bengaluru for this purpose.

They have been booked for fraud along with 17 other persons, who are allegedly involved in the racket.
