Of the 19,142 small and marginal farmers in the district, whose crop loans have been waived, 200 received the loan waiver certificate here on Thursday.

Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare V.M. Rajalakshmi, who handed over the certificate to the farmers in a function held here on Thursday, said the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had fulfilled her promise of crop loan waiver to the tune of Rs. 142.74 crore. After officials examined the crop loan dues as on March 31 last, the list was prepared and approved.

“All other farmers will receive the certificates soon,” she said.

Collector Karunakaran said 25,000 tonnes of paddy could be procured from the non-delta region in 2014-2015 and this quantity increased to 32,000 tonnes in 2015-2016 thanks to progressive farming policies of the State Government.

“Quality farm inputs including chemical fertilizers are being sold through cooperative societies and authorised dealers at the right price.

Since the organic farming practices ensure farm produce of superior quality while requiring less water, farmers should go in for natural farming,” he said.

District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, Tenkasi MP Vasanthi Murugesan, MLAs R. Murugaiah Pandian of Ambasamudram, A. Manoharan of Vasudevanallur participated.
