More than 200 employees of an electronic parts assembling factory near Sriperumpudur were treated after they had reportedly inhaled ‘noxious gas’ inside the assembly unit on July 23.

According to police, the company engaged in assembling electronic components for its clients had recently reopened the unit after a gap of nearly 18 months. Some of the employees swooned at around 2 p.m. while they were in the midst of their shift. Subsequently all the employees, around 120 persons, working in that shift were taken to a private hospital at Sriperumpudur where they were treated and sent home.

A similar incident was reported in the assembly unit of the same factory at around midnight during the night shift. The employees were rushed to the same private hospital for treatment. On coming to know about the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot. After investigation, they reported that it was the spraying of insecticide in the air-conditioned unit that was the root cause of the problem. However, further investigation is on to decipher the exact cause for the incident.
