The authorities here arrested two Sri Lankan fishermen, who had drifted ashore at Kodiakkarai, in the early hours of Monday, after their boat ran out of fuel.

The fishermen, Chandru (23) and Sumanan (30) from Valvettithurai in Jaffna, had set out on their boat on Saturday with 70 litres of fuel. However, their boat ran out of fuel on Sunday night and began to drift windward, till they eventually ran ashore Kodiakkarai early on Monday morning.

The two men were sighted by the local fishermen and their boat with a catch of 25 kg was seized by the Customs authorities.

Interrogation

Coast Guard and the Marine police interrogated the fishermen to ascertain their claims.

The men have been booked under the Indian Passport Act.
