More than 100 people from Virupatchi Sri Lankan Refugee Camp thronged the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Thursday afternoon, demanding action against some unknown persons who reportedly sexually assaulted a 17-year-old mentally retarded refugee girl, staying in a private home-cum-school for special children at Angu Nagar here.

In a petition submitted to SP A. Saravanan, the parents of the girl said she was admitted to the home for basic education in 2015. When the girl had come home recently, she informed her parents that she was suffering from severe stomach pain.

The doctors who examined her declared that she was seven months pregnant, they said, and demanded immediate action against those who sexually assaulted her and the home authorities.

They had already filed a complaint with Chatrapatti police station in this connection, they added.

The SP assured them that he would look into their complaint and take necessary action.
