Nearly 1.63 crore smart ration cards have been issued so far in the State, and steps are being taken to provide smart cards to 4.86 lakh families, said Food Minister R. Kamaraj here on Friday.

He instructed the government officials to issue smart cards to all households and ensure that ration shops were adequately stocked for Deepavali.

Items seized

Stating that essential commodities estimated at ₹15.68 lakh, which were smuggled out of the State, had been seized, the Minister added that such operations would continue against the smuggling of rice.

He instructed the officials to monitor the distribution of commodities in ration shops.

The Minister said that grievance redress camps were held in September, during which 8,322 petitions were received and the complaints resolved on the same day.

He said consumers may register their complaints by calling 1967 or 18004255901.
