14 women rescued from flesh trade, 4 arrested

A team of police personnel attached to Tirupattur sub-division have rescued 14 women hailing from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, who were allegedly forced into the flesh trade, on Wednesday.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) – Tirupattur sub-division R. Ponni received information about the illegal activities at two lodges in Tirupattur town. The ASP organised two teams of police personnelto conduct a raid on the two lodges. They rescued 14 women – all aged between 20 and 25 years – from the two lodges.

The team arrested four persons, including managers and assistants of the two lodges. The arrested persons were – Mariappan (28), Karuppaiya (48), Kottaisamy (57) and Sivasamy (24) of Thirumayam in Pudukottai district.

The police are on the lookout for four others — owner of one of the lodges Sekar and three persons who had taken the other lodge on lease, Azhagu, Ravi and Saravanan — according to the police.

Ms. Ponni said the rescued women would be produced before the magistrate and sent to a government home. An enquiry would be conducted into the case.
