Man gets 10-year RI

Tuticorin Fast Track Mahila Court Judge J. Flora on Friday sentenced an accused to undergo a 10-year rigorous imprisonment on the charges of kidnapping a minor girl and sexually assaulting her. The sentences would run concurrently. According to the prosecution, K. Muthu Mariappan (23), a driver of Kayalpattinam, was found guilty of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her. The incident occurred on February 15, 2014, and Arumuganeri police filed a case.

The accused was punished under Sections 366 (A) (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, 2012. A fine of Rs. 2, 000 was also imposed on him.
